Valentine’s Day 2025
It is Black History Month. Today is Valentine’s Day. It’s Friday AND it’s payday. The stars very seldom collide in such a beautiful match as this. Happy Valentine’s Day to all the lovers. I’m not a hater lol so I love this day even though I am single. A time to reflect on how you share and show your love to the people nearest and dearest to you, or even just to the people you come in contact with. I am reminded as I’m scroll Instagram that I am once again single for this holiday. It used to bother me but I haven’t had a legit Valentine since high school (absurd I know) so the disappointment of spending another one alone romantically has definitely worn off at this point.
This year I am choosing to hold close to my heart what this day will look like for me when love in the form of a partner finds me -if it does at all. I can imagine that I will one day have someone that will understand all the Valentine’s past that I spent solo wishing to be showered with flowers and chocolates, enjoying date night and will make up for all that time lost. I see myself making a huge show of the day for my children so that they understand that love comes in many different forms and that romantic love is only a piece of the puzzle. Whatever future V days hold for me, I know it will be filled with genuine love.
I know a bunch of people think it’s silly to get so wrapped up in the day – it’s commercial and promotes spending a bunch of money to try to impress someone that you may or may not even be speaking to when the day comes around again the next year. Or better yet – Valentine’s Day is year round, you don’t need a day to prove you love someone. Very valid, I get it. If you think the day is cheesy and meaningless, do you but I don’t see the harm in taking a day that is intentionally set as the day of love – love for oneself, your partner, family, and friends. Or if your significant other is really into it and you are not, it will not kill you to play along – love is a lot of times an act of sacrifice. The day can be whatever or however you want it to be, just make sure it is rooted in love.
So today – wherever you are, whatever you’re doing, and whoever you’re doing it with I hope you give love, receive love, and feel loved. Don’t listen to the voices in your head that tell you that you don’t deserve love, that you are too messy, not worthy, or uncapable of love. You are just right. You are enough. You are capable. Happy Valentine’s Day Loves.
“Now these three remain: faith, hope, and love – but the greatest of these is love.” 1 Corinthians 13:13.
