Lippies Have Superpowers

The first lipstick I remember purchasing as an adult was a M.A.C. purple frost color called Odyssey. That day I bought a matching lip pencil to match. I was very new with experimenting with makeup and wearing anything other than a sparkly lip gloss was odd to me, but I was determined to step out and try something new. That had to be about five years ago and now one of my favorite things to wear makeup wise is a bold lip.

There is something about a standout color on the lips that makes you feel ultra feminine while making you feel like a boss at the same time. A shade that compliments your skin tone just right can change your entire mood. Wearing a particular lip color honestly gives me a little confidence boost and different colors spark different parts of my personality. My favorite way to wear a lippie is with a simple but very smooth foundation base and no eye makeup with the exception of mascara or lashes. This truly lets the color have its rightful shine. It’s a different feeling I get when I wear a lip color verses just a nude gloss. I like formulas that are comfortable on the lips but that will last through eating, drinking and having fun without too much fuss or reapplying. At this point of I have tried plenty of different colors but there are three or four colors that are staples in my makeup collection.

Vibrant Purple

Purple has always taken rank as my favorite color since I was a little girl. All hues from plum to lavender are beautiful. For me however a pop of vibrant purple is simply fun. Purple takes place of the classic red for me. It is my go to when I have on a simple black dress and need just something extra to be complete. This color is my summer time fine shade that I feel comfortable rocking during the day as well as night.  My favorite purple to wear is Studded Kiss Crème Lipstick in the shade L.U.V. by Kat. Von D.

Vampy Red or Purple

When I’m in the mood to be feisty or simply look like a chick you don’t want to mess with I go with a dark color. Deep rich colors such as are the ultimate when it comes to being and feeling sexy. They make me feel strong and overall super confident. When I pick this for my color of the evening I am truly feeling myself. I either like a matte finish or something that is glossy to give a vinyl effect. For the perfect vampy lip I tend to grab Instigator by M.A.C.

Chocolate Brown

This one to me has been a complete unexpected show stopper. I get the most compliments in this shade. Although this is the perfect color to wear as the fall season arrives, I slowly started incorporating the color year round. It compliments jewel tones like emerald green, ruby red and mustard yellow so well that I will typically shape my outfit around the color when I want to wear it. I haven’t had much luck when it comes to finding my perfect nude shade, but this has been somewhat of a substitute. Being slightly darker than my tone, it doesn’t wash me out. Wearing the brown on my lips tends to make my golden undertones even richer for a glow from within look. There are many pretty browns that can be found in the drugstore but my favorite is the Matte Velvetine in the color Salem by Lime Crime.

Wearing lipstick initially can be a little intimidating. I know it was for me, and I hear a lot of people stating that it just “doesn’t look right” on them. Playing around with different shades and finishes is a good way to figure out what is most personally comfortable when wearing a lip color. I’m not one for a lot of jewelry but lipstick is an easy accessory to ramp up any look. Colors can play a part in your attitude and have the power to change your entire mood.
